MUSICAL TRIP OF A LIFETIME

Sing in famous English cathedral!

We are a totally unique-in-Hawai’i, high-standard concert choir, honored to have been selected by Ely Cathedral in England (7^th longest in the world!) to sing for them as their holiday “choir in residence” July 7-13, 2014.

We are especially proud to represent the State of Hawai’i, its culture, families, musicians, companies, schools and organizations!

All adults and children are invited to an easy audition. Any person is eligible for consideration to sing with us.
Children ages 8-14 who love singing, and teens and adults (mezzos, altos, tenors and basses) are invited.
Active preparation begins with a local “choir camp” July 8-12, 2013.
Regular rehearsals begin in September 2013:
- Trebles (children): Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Honolulu. Ride-sharing is possible.
- Teen and adult section: Wednesdays 6:45-8:45 p.m.
Participation includes training in British cathedral choral technique.
We are also members of the Royal School of Church Music.

The trip: We will also see the sights in “merry olde England.”

A professional British tour company (Richardson and Gray) with experience in choir tours to British cathedrals will be utilized to make your experience easy, enjoyable and safe.
The choir will sing seven beautiful services and a concert at Ely.
We are actively seeking major funding to keep the cost down, and we know the choir’s lifetime memories will be priceless!

Hawai’i Sacred Choir’s Mission

The Hawai’i Sacred Choir is a nonprofit, nondenominational choir formed to nurture in Hawai’i’s current and future generations an education in and love of the world’s greatest sacred choral literature from Gregorian chant (plainsong) through contemporary cathedral repertoire and to inspire Hawai’i and the world by performing it in concerts, worship services, community events, and recordings.

The choir’s mission is closely connected with the wishes of King Kamehameha IV and his wife, Queen Emma, known as “the Holy Sovereigns.” A treasured wish of the Holy Sovereigns was that the Hawaiian people and their descendants sing great music.

The Hawai’i Sacred Choir’s intent is aligned with the sovereigns’ desire to share with the people the most glorious sacred choral music ever composed, sung by a multicultural choir of children trebles singing with adult voices, creating a creating a glorious and ethereal vocal texture similar to that of Choir of King’s College of Cambridge, England, or the historic Sistine Chapel Choir in Rome.
