AUDITIONS FOR 2013-2014
We are looking for trebles (children ages 8-14) and teens and adults (mezzo soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Everyone who can sing even the simplest song in tune is encouraged to audition. We provide complete training in the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) tradition, including international standards for curricula and choir medals. (See The Royal School of Church Music)
The Hawai’i Sacred Choir is the only choir in Hawai’i that is affiliated with the prestigious international Royal School of Church Music, based in England.
Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red and Yellow Levels
Once the singer has become a full member of the choir, they move on to the four main levels of the Voice for Life textbooks: Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red and Yellow. At each level of Voice for Life there are graded targets which are assessed informally by the choirmaster. Once a singer has completed the necessary training for that level, reached the targets and finished their workbook, they can be awarded their RSCM medal and the appropriately colored ribbon. The singer then moves on to the next level.
Audition appointments may be set by calling 220-6969. Auditions are easy and very relaxed. At the audition, we will ask you to:
- Demonstrate breath control
- Match various musical notes played on the piano
- Sing your highest and lowest notes
- With instruction, create an “open” and vibrato-less tone
- Sing a song of your choice or a simple one we offer you
Minor-aged children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the 20-minute audition. (All rehearsals will be led and supervised by child safety-certified adults.)
